OSCAR’S STORY
Oscar was known to many as ‘Monty’. He was a big presence, on the rugby pitch and off… Off the rugby pitch, he loved the sea with a deep passion, and was destined to live in, on and under the sea, in any way that he could.
His passion for the sea extended to the entirety of the natural world, and his wish to care for the natural world meant he was a fervent environmentalist.
He died whilst free diving at Church Ope Cove, Dorset, on May 27th 2020.
Whilst Monty is no longer with us we want to use this opportunity through the Oscar Montgomery Environmental Foundation to achieve change in the areas he cared so much about, creating a lasting legacy in his memory, and achieving some of those things he would have continued to devote himself to.
THE CHARITY’S HISTORY
Founded in memory of Oscar Montgomery – our passionate, caring, determined, ocean-loving friend – our story is one of passion, dedication, and a deep love for the ocean. Since 2020, we have been inspiring action and working tirelessly to preserve the precious ecosystems that our planet’s oceans hold.
Witnessing the challenges faced by our oceans—rising sea temperatures, coral bleaching events, plastic pollution, declining fish stocks, and the impacts of climate change—has only strengthened our resolve.
By partnering with local communities, charities and universities, we have implemented effective conservation strategies, advocated for sustainable practices, and worked directly on some incredibly worthwhile marine conservation projects, inspiring countless individuals to take action and become stewards of the sea.
As our story continues to unfold, we remain resolute in our commitment. The strapline ‘Inspiring Action, Creating Waves’ drives us forward, propelling us to seek innovative solutions and adapt to new challenges. Our journey is far from over, and we invite you to join us. Explore our work, engage with our initiatives, and become part of the OMEF community. Together, let us create a future where the wonders of the ocean are safeguarded for generations to come.
